The Dakota Slim has a place for everything you need, while the clean lines and thin profile give it a minimalist feel. It folds in half and snaps shut with a genuine buffalo nickel snap to easily fit in your purse. Your cards and cash will be safe and secure! When folded closed, our women’s slim leather wallet measures 7 ¾ inches long and 4 inches wide. We make it entirely from full grain Buffalo leather so that it will endure years of use. However, that full grain leather doesn’t add bulk. This slim billfold is packed with pockets and only about ½ inch thick!

Learning how to care for full-grain leather goods is simple—and doing it properly will help your favorite bison leather pieces last for decades. At Buffalo Billfold Company, we tan all our American Bison leather with a natural “naked” finish, meaning the grain is untouched and the pores remain open. This creates leather that ages beautifully and develops a rich patina through use, not chemicals. With just minimal maintenance, your wallet, purse, or belt will stay supple, strong, and handsome for years to come.

Routine Leather Care Tips
For everyday full-grain leather care, keep your item clean and dry. A light wipe with a soft, dry cloth removes dust and surface dirt—no soaking or harsh cleaners required. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat, which can dry natural oils and make the leather stiff. If you live in a hot, arid climate, you may apply a very light coating of a clear, neutral shoe cream after testing it on a hidden area. This helps replenish moisture lost to dry air while preserving the natural finish. Do not use mink oil, shoe polish, or saddle soap—these products can clog pores, darken unevenly, or damage the leather’s breathability.

How to Condition Full-Grain Leather
Occasional conditioning is optional, but it can enhance longevity. If your leather begins to look dull or dry, apply a small amount of leather balm or Venetian shoe cream using a clean cloth. Work in gentle circular motions and allow it to absorb overnight before buffing lightly. Once or twice a year is enough—over-conditioning can cause buildup or dark spots. Because our bison leather is full-grain and naturally oiled during tanning, it typically needs little more than regular use to stay in great shape. The natural oils from your hands will darken and enrich the leather’s patina over time, giving it that well-worn saddle look prized by leather enthusiasts.

Bison Leather Maintenance and Storage
Proper bison leather maintenance is as much about storage as cleaning. Keep your leather goods in a cool, ventilated space away from direct sunlight. Never store them in airtight plastic containers—leather needs to breathe. When traveling, avoid overstuffing bags or folding wallets tightly for long periods. If your item gets wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature, then gently recondition if needed. With mindful care, your full-grain leather will continue to develop a deep, lustrous finish that reflects your life’s adventures.

Leather “Blooming”
Our leather is real, and real leather has natural oils in it. Unlike poor leather goods that you need to condition often, our leather is full grain leather and retains its natural oils. If a product sits unused for some time, some of those oils might “bloom” out of the leather. This is normal – it’s one sign you have good leather. Just take a dry cloth and rub it on the leather in a circular motion to “buff” it, just as you would if you were using a leather conditioner. This will move the natural oils back into the leather (and onto the cloth you use to do this).
